MSSQL Replication failures

September 21st, 2006

Occasionally replication fails, it’s just a part of using MSSQL…
For whatever reason a subscription can end up in an inactive state, a little more info can be found here.
There are times when even re-initialising through the GUI simply does nothing, and a manual update is needed. As always, this is a last resort option , and may not be a good idea depending on your situation.

Mitac Mio A701 updates

September 20th, 2006

While there’s still no useful OFFICIAL releases from Mitac for the A701, there are a few leaked versions of updated firmware that seem to working pretty well.
I recently loaded the R64 release, finally with AKU 2.3 support. Pushmail with Exchange 2003 seems to be working great, and overall the phone is much snappier and responsive. No problems yet, but head over to The Unofficial Mio A701 Forums and have a read about the available ROMS.

Exchange 2003 Patching Woes

September 12th, 2006

If you’ve patched your Exchange 2003 servers with the fix detailed in MS06-019, and you run a Blackberry server, then you probably already know about this little change that they slipped in.
In short, the patch removes the “SEND AS” rights to the BB server’s service account, so your users will no longer be able to send emails from their handhelds. As an added extra, any privileged accounts that are using handhelds will have an additional hoop to jump through to get it working.

In The Absense Of Keys

September 12th, 2006

Well, I’ve been rather busy and running around for a while, so the updates had to be put on hold for a while.

Anyway, I’ve been spending some quality time with a new set of lockpicks I’ve finally managed to get my hands on – Varjeal’s Picks

These little picks are the most amazing works of art. Beautifully polished and finished so immaculately that I almost don’t want to use them. But, unfortunately you just have to use them, they’re WAY too good not to.
If you’re into locksport as a hobby, you probably know all about them already, but if you have a little experience with lock manipulation and haven’t tried these out, do yourself a favour and order a set, or two…
Be warned, they’re in high demand and may take a while to get made and sent off, but they’re well worth the wait.

Updated: Creative X-Fi Drivers

July 3rd, 2006

Creative have just released a full driver package for the Soundblaster X-Fi, an update to the beta driver released in May. Grab it here

Hopefully this will fix the Battlefield 2 crash “There were 1 unreleased IDrvALDevice interfaces”, as I mentioned previously. I haven’t tested it extensively yet, but so far so good.

Blackberry 7130g review (mini)

July 1st, 2006

What is there to say about this phone that hasn’t been said elsewhere? Well, nothing really, but I would like to share some thoughts…

Cisco SDSL config

June 18th, 2006

Just a quick sample config for an SDSL line in the UK. It should work as is, but you may have to modify the dialer interface statement.

I need more pesticide!

June 16th, 2006

It’s been a frustrating week of buggy patches and updates all over the place.

Microsoft’s latest slew of updates have broken more of my machines this week than they have in a long time. Asus are not far behind with a useless bios update for the A8N32-SLI motherboard that breaks the primary functionality of the board – RAID.
And last, but not least, Creative. Finally a new, but unsupported, driver for the X-FI soundcard. Just don’t install it if you’re a Battlefield 2 player…
